The Story of The Garden Villa

"It all began with a vision of creating a serene, tranquil space for clients to enjoy and be photographed," explains Simon Yao, one of Central Ohio's most beloved portrait photographers, who has captured the essence of thousands of families, weddings, and brands over his distinguished 25-year career. The construction of the garden commenced in 2003, evolving into a labor of love spanning several years. Every shrub, paver, and rock was meticulously planted and placed by Simon and his dedicated team.

Enhanced by its unique geographically-protected location, abundant southern exposure, and a plethora of local wildlife, the newly-envisioned landscape swiftly took root alongside towering, mature trees, creating an enchanted environment that appeared timeless.

In 2005, the garden house was erected, serving as both a picturesque backdrop for Simon’s clients and a functional greenhouse. The concept of The Garden Villa was inspired by Simon’s extensive travels, as he envisioned sharing the extraordinary charm of the garden as a local destination in Columbus. Officially unveiled in the spring of 2019, The Garden Villa swiftly garnered acclaim as a cherished hidden gem among travelers, locals, and couples seeking a peaceful sanctuary amidst the bustling cityscape.
